Did the old norse use real world object to describe map features?

Gotland
Described as a juniper tree by Jordanes.
Lofoten:
"The bobcat foot".
Vik (narrow pointy bay)
Does refer to "ett veck" (eng "a fold")
Notice that there is quite many long narrow bays (as well as many narrow lakes). Especially in central Sweden, like Uppland, Södermanland, Östergötland, Småland. Also (mostly lakes) in Värmland, Dalsland, Närke, Västmanland.
The prevalence of these pointy bays may explain why a separate word for them has evolved at all (something that doesn't exist in any other language that I know of.).
The typical explanation of these geographic features is that they where created under the ice during the ice age, as the ice moved, moving lose rocks which where carving out these narrow "scratches".
Ö (island)
Does it refer to an eye? Notice also the islands: Svartlöga, Rödlöga, Gillöga where öga litteraly means eye in Swedish.
Aros (river ending or river delta):
Does it refer to å-ros, rose of an "å" (å means river)
